And your device is automatically optimised for 36 different scenes, so you always get the best shot.

Quality craftsmanship

Xperia Z was designed in collaboration with Sony consumer electronics experts, for quality craftsmanship and consistent attention to details. Only premium materials were used throughout, like aluminium for the power and volume buttons and durable tempered glass for the front and back.

Super slim

We’ve eliminated a layer of air and brought the display closer to the lens, for added touch sensitivity and a smaller size. This construction, along with a new component layout and skeleton frame allows for a slimness of 7.9 mm.

Water and Dust Resistant

We tested the Xperia Z to make sure it can keep going even after 30 minutes under water. It can even withstand water jets. The high IP55 & IP57 rating means you can use it in the rain, take photos by the pool and easily clean it off from everyday spills and dirt.
We even put Xperia Z in a dust chamber for rigorous testing, to make sure its operations were unaffected.

Water-resistant and dust-resistant, the Xperia Z smartphone is tough and sleek.

Quick benefits:
  • Water resistant up to 1 meter
  • Resistant to water jets
  • Dust resistant

HID Global Launches New Secure Identity Services the ability to replace security access badges with BlackBerry® smartphones

It’s no secret that we love Near Field Communication (NFC). What’s exciting at this point is watching some of the use cases come to fruition, and today in particular, the ability to replace security access badges with BlackBerry® smartphones. NFC is an innovative technology with many stakeholders and interested parties including enterprise customers, end users, financial institutions, carriers, and of course smartphone manufacturers. BlackBerry smartphones have been leading the way in mobile payments for some time, becoming the first smartphones to be certified by MasterCard® and Visa® for NFC-based payments, and now we’re first to be available as an access badge replacement solution. “RIM has proven to be a leader in NFC technology, and in bringing NFC solutions to market – we spearheaded the efforts in mobile payments. Now we are taking NFC beyond payments into the enterprise sector and partnering with HID Global®, an industry leader in physical access solutions” says Geoff MacGillivray, RIM Sr. Product Manager for NFC.

Late last week HID Global announced the availability of Secure Identity Services™, a comprehensive suite of web-based services for managing physical access credentials (read the HID press release for more info). Secure Identity Services is the enterprise’s first all-in-one web-based solution for credential provisioning and management. The platform provides businesses with the tools to create, use, and manage identities for traditional badges on plastic cards, for tokens, and for digital credentials on NFC-enabled BlackBerry smartphones beginning with models on the Verizon Wireless network: the BlackBerry® Bold™ 9930 and the BlackBerry® Curve™ 9370.

We’ve been dedicated to mobilizing and securing solutions to the challenges that organizations face since the launch of BlackBerry in 1999. Concerning physical access, we began with the BlackBerry® Smart Card Reader, which provides secure access to your BlackBerry smartphone and computer, and have now worked closely with HID Global to bring this expertise to physical access credentials.

    What this means for you

Physical access to a building is a key element to the security posture of an organization; it’s important that the platform can be trusted implicitly. Encryption of data, security certifications, and VPN technology all contribute to the security of this solution on BlackBerry smartphones. “With our heritage in protecting our customers’ mobile assets, we already understand the security challenges at play here. It was a natural progression to bring physical access control to our mobile devices” says Michael K. Brown, Vice President of Security Product Management & Research at RIM®.

As an end user, you may soon be able to turn in that badge once and for all, centralizing your security access to your smartphone. For enterprise customers the centralized web-based management tool will provide a solution for badge replacement, employee turnover, tracking, and more.

This is a significant value-add to existing NFC-enabled BlackBerry smartphone deployments (including employees who bring their own BlackBerry devices to work). Alongside enterprise mobility management solutions, unified communication and collaboration, and the secure BlackBerry infrastructure, a solution from HID that allows you to replace your physical access badges is icing on the cake.

    How does it work?

I asked our NFC product team this very question as soon as I heard the news. Access credentials are stored on an embedded secure element within a BlackBerry smartphone – and an HID Global app installed on the devices is able to call up this information and then utilize BlackBerry Trusted Service Manager to create a VPN connection to HID’s servers, allowing for remote management of this secure area and the credentials within.

A physical badge represents an additional set of credentials for your business to manage. When you integrate this with a BlackBerry smartphone, you bring it into the fold of device management that is already underway with BlackBerry® Enterprise Server. It’s an extension of your management and security capabilities to include these access credentials.

RIM Launches Blackberry 4G LTE BlackBerry PlayBook in canada on 9th August

Earlier today we announced the 4G LTE™ BlackBerry® PlayBook™ tablet, which will be available in Canada on August 9th and will become available in other countries and regions around the world in the coming months. With its ultra-fast 4G LTE wireless network support and 1.5 GHz dual core processor, this device delivers an improved performance experience. For those of you who work from home, travel frequently or who are constantly on the road and need wireless connectivity beyond Wi-Fi®, your PlayBook tablet has now arrived.

Experiencing the 4G LTE BlackBerry PlayBook Tablet

When you’re running from one meeting to the next or trying to catch a plane, you need all of your information to be consolidated in one place as it arrives in your inbox. You need to have this information be easy to digest, organize, and filter. This is where the unified inbox of BlackBerry® PlayBook™ OS 2.0 provides serious benefit, with all of your emails, LinkedIn® messages, Facebook® notifications, and Twitter® mentions flowing simply and cleanly into the inbox.

Your flight information, hotel confirmation, and map to the conference center can be stored in the Print To Go® application, where you “printed” them from your PC to the PlayBook tablet as they were received. Information about who you’re meeting with, which may include people you may have never met before, is automatically culled for you from LinkedIn and stored in the Calendar application, giving you context and helping you be better prepared for your meetings.
Sure, hotels and airports generally have Wi-Fi®, but cabs, trains, city streets, and many restaurants are still gaps that need to be filled. For those with Wi-Fi enabled PlayBook tablets, the BlackBerry® Bridge™ app or the Mobile Hotspot feature with BlackBerry® 7.1 OS smartphones can help keep you connected. But with a 4G LTE BlackBerry PlayBook tablet you’ll have broader coverage and faster wireless access on 4G LTE while on the go (when a 4G LTE network is available).
When you’re back in the hotel at the end of your day, take some time for yourself. You’ll find amazing games for the PlayBook tablet on the BlackBerry App World™ storefront. You also shouldn’t have to worry about the mix of corporate and personal data, and neither should your organization; BlackBerry® Balance™ technology helps keep those data stores nicely separated within your PlayBook tablet.

Solving the Challenges of Mobile Device Management for Your Organization

You may have a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) policy within your organization, perhaps mixed with a few corporately-provisioned smartphones, and even a few special cases within your executive staff. There is little black and white and many shades of gray when it comes to the mobile landscape within many organizations today, both large and small. BlackBerry® Mobile Fusion is our solution to making sense of it all, designed to protect your data, help meet priorities of both employees and IT departments, and ultimately help to lower your total cost of ownership.

BlackBerry Mobile Fusion is designed to allow your organization to manage BlackBerry®, iOS®, and Android™ smartphones and tablets from a single unified interface, leveraging existing BlackBerry technology and new innovations to provide an all-in-one solution from a trusted and experienced provider that’s been delivering Mobile Device Management solutions to enterprise and government customers for more than a decade.
Combined with the BlackBerry® Device Service component of BlackBerry Mobile Fusion, your 4G LTE PlayBook tablet can be securely connected and fully integrated with common corporate mail servers like Microsoft® Exchange®, Lotus® Domino, or Novell® GroupWise®, helping to keep emails, contacts, and calendar appointments synchronized every step of the way so that you won’t miss a beat.

    The Experience Doesn’t Stop Here

In future blog posts, we’ll be diving deeper into a fully optimized mobile office experience. Add in a BlackBerry® Mini Keyboard and the Citrix® Receiver for BlackBerry PlayBook tablets, for example, and you’ve got a serious powerhouse of productivity and functionality that can be far easier on the bottom-line (and easier to carry), than laptops or other on-the-go technology. The 4G LTE BlackBerry PlayBook will be pre-loaded with OS 2.0.1, which is also now available for Wi-Fi PlayBook owners as a maintenance update.
The 4G LTE BlackBerry PlayBook tablet is currently available in Canada from Bell, Rogers and TELUS. Get all of the details in our press release, and learn more on the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet web site. Data plans are sold separately.
Do you travel often for business? How would you use a 4G LTE BlackBerry PlayBook tablet? Share in the comments below.
    * LTE connectivity is currently only available from a limited number of carriers in specific countries. Where LTE is not available, the 4G LTE BlackBerry PlayBook tablet can automatically adjust to connect on HSPA+.

    Nokia 8 WP(Windows Phone) 8 mockup

Tobias Pankraz imagine the future of Windows Phone 8 devices and created the Nokia 8 WP8 mockup, that you can see below. This is a sharp handset, with rectangular lines and a slab modern metals thrown into a tight shell. The phone has a very discrete camera and an elegant allure, so good job Tobias!
Nokia 8 Windows Phone 8 Mockup is: Big, Thin, Elegant

Nokia 8 runs Windows Phone 8, with those smaller tiles, medium tiles and wider, bigger tiles. There’s a 12 megapixel camera at the back and the device has at the bottom the audio jack, the microUSB port and a speaker grille, a design that may remind you of the iPhone 5. Up at the top there’s the earpiece and on/off button, while on the side we have the camera button and the volume buttons. The display is brilliantly integrated into the rectangular case of the Nokia WP8 concept.
If I were to speculate, I’d say this is a 7 mm thick smartphone, with a dual core processor, a 4.5 inch HD display, 1GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. The bezel of the device is extremely thin, almost non existing, fitting with the idea of ClearBlack Display. So, do you fancy this design, or is it too thin?

    Nokia N9 S Tablet , is a Larger Nokia N9

Every time you’re going to think to yourself “this tablet looks like a larger phone”, remember that that’s basically what Apple did with the iPad and HTC with the Flyer. Anyway, here’s the Nokia N9 S tablet, designed by Imran Sheikh, who also envisioned some specs for this MeeGo slate.

Nokia N9 S Tablet Runs MeeGo, is Basically a Larger Nokia N9

Nokia N9-S tablet features MeeGo OS 1.2 Harmattan, a 1080p screen (Super AMOLED Capacitive Clear Black Display), 16/64/128 GB of storage and 2 GB of RAM. There’s a 16 megapixel camera at the back with autofocus and dual LED flash, plus the ability to record HD video at 1080p and 30 fps. There’s also a secondary 5 MP camera with 1080p 30 fps capture ability. The battery is a dual Li-Ion 6000 mAh unit, with one of the battery units being hot swappable, a very original idea, I have to admit.
My only problem with this device is that its dual batteries will make it very heavy and bulky. Also, the camera doesn’t need to be so powerful, since people don’t actually use tablets to take pics, since they’re kind of… ashamed of doing that, because they don’t want to seem douches. And here’s a quote from the designer: “N9 S Tablet will also sport OpenMobile’s Application Compatibility Layer (ACL) , which will bring over 400,000+ Android Apps to this MeeGo Slate and is 100% compatible and all Android Apps run exactly as they do on an Android device”. Pretty cool, right?

Sony Experia with Tegra 3 Quad Core Processor

The latest Xperia concept, the Sony Xperia I make their first quad core phone Tegra 3. The design keeps the same rectangular and minimalistic look of other recent renders with the Sony branding on. This is an Android 4.0 smartphone, with a 4.5 inch display, a quad core Tegra 3 processor, 2GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. There’s also a 20 megapixel camera at the back with Xenon flash and I guess that the screen is a HD one. Add to that a front camera, most likely NFC and LTE and you’ve got some sort of upgraded Xperia Ion here.
Since Nokia already have a 41 megapixel cameraphone out there, that 20 MP sensor doesn’t stun anyone any more… The next stunner will be the 1080p display phone or maybe the one with a flexible screen, if that ever happens.

Samsung aims to become top three LTE network vendor

LIVE FROM GSMA MOBILE WORLD CONGRESS 2012: Samsung has set out its long-term goal for LTE, saying its target is to be one of the top three global infrastructure vendors in this market in 2013. By 2015 the Korean vendor is targeting a top three spot within the entire mobile infrastructure market, now that it has finally added GSM to its product mix.

It will have its work cut out: the LTE market is already dominated by Ericsson, Alcatel-Lucent and Nokia-Siemens; according to Infonetics Research, Alcatel-Lucent was edging slightly ahead of Ericsson in the LTE equipment segment in Q2 2011.

IP Hong, VP of marketing at Samsung, said during a roundtable at Mobile World Congress that the Korean company now has eight commercial LTE contracts – all outside of Europe to date - and has deployed “tens of thousands of base stations”. He said the vendor has a “double-digit” market share now, and aims to increase that further this year.

He is also confident that Samsung will also be able to achieve its target through organic growth: “We already have the entire product line and can achieve it on our own,” he said. He added that the vendor sees considerable benefits from the fact that it is now one of the few vendors to have both a device and networks division.

Samsung said it had sold 1.7 million devices in Q4 2011 and had 41 percent of the market, making it the market leader in this field.
